Tiger Conversation

Speaker | Peter Ong, writer and wildlife photographer

Peter Ong's passion for wildlife and the environment led him on a career of wildlife photography and environmental advocacy. He subsequently launched Project Monyet in 2019 to photograph and document all of Malaysia’s 26 primate species, many of which are endangered and data deficient. His photography and advocacy work has since led him to develop other projects to promote economic empowerment of local communities living with or next to the jungles to encourage them to become better stewards of the environment as well as to spread awareness of the incredible biodiversity and natural wealth of Malaysia and South-East Asia. He is currently heading a project entitled “Wang Kelian, Perlis - The Forgotten Valley” to record the biodiversity and cultural heritage of one of the most biodiverse areas of Semenanjung Malaysia.

Tiger Conservation Work in Perak

Speaker | Lara Ariffin, president of RIMAU Foundation

Lara Ariffin is the President of RIMAU - a non-governmental organisation that focuses on saving the Malayan Tiger and is also one of Malaysia’s most established documentary producers. The Tiger Protection Society of Malaysia or RIMAU was established in 2018 to help save the Malayan tiger and its habitat from the brink of extinction. Together with Perak State Parks Corporation, RIMAU has developed and activated a community- based wildlife protection unit called ‘Menraq’ which means ‘the people’ in the Jahai language. RIMAU also works on getting more Malaysians to join in the efforts to save the Malayan tiger. They partner with Nuvista Media to make several tiger-conservation films to highlight the plight of the Malayan tiger.

《我們在房裡看A片》 | 胡玖洲
「我」整天躲在「房間」裡,從事不可告人的神秘事業。如果說父親是律法般的存在,則詩既是一股逸離或抗辯的力量,也是默默討拍的願望。我(半島生民,詩人,男性)湧動氣血,讓世界與身體展開激烈的爭吵,催出朵朵猛綻的詩意。這樣的行為以自足的篇章為結果,拒絕多餘的「解釋」。——為了避開尷尬,詩人假稱他是在房裡看 A 片。——事實上,他正在解釋,以詩的方式(通過隱喻、暗示與敘述),向讀者。啊,原來「向父親說謊」(而非看A 片)是袒露自我的另類手段,能夠逼人使出語言文字的絕技。

個人簡介:鄭詩儐副教授,華中師範大學古典文獻學專業博士。出版專著如《「清史稿·藝文志」「補遺」「拾遺」之子部小說研究》,並有數十篇論文發表在國內外重要期刊。現為新紀元大學學院國際教育學院創院院長、市場與行銷部總監、品牌與創意部總監。

Wildlife Photography

Speaker | Sanjitpaal Singh, international award-winning photographer

International award-winning photographer (2012 - 2016) International Photographer of the year Award - USA and 2011 semi-finalist for Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year - UK) with 18 years of experience has contributed to various publications. Through his passion for photography, and various collaboration from camera companies and supporting photographic products from Olympus (Malaysia), Datacolor (Hong Kong), Gitzo (Italy) and Huawei he also conducts workshops and seminars and has judged photo competitions in Malaysia and Singapore. Sanjit also contributes to DSLR Malaysia and is a columnist for Aperture Photography magazines. Recent works of 2015 – 2017 includes exhibitions in 2 museums in USA and international exhibitions in Paris.
